Max Grafe grew up in New Orleans. He now lives in New York City, where he works as a printmaker, painter, and illustrator. He is the illustrator of Old Coyote, written by Nancy Wood, A Book Sense 76 Selection, and The Bearskinner, written by Laura Amy Schlitz (both Candlewick). He says of Old Coyote, “My goal for the images was to capture the essence of the words while leaving enough room for the viewer’s imagination to roam.”

Max Grafe lives in Brooklyn, New York.
